Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Charity want to say a huge thank you to Anne Mellor for helping out our veterans!
Anne Mellor decided to start a campaign to ask people to donate televisions, radios, CD players and old headphones to the Huddersfield branch of RAFA. This meant that Anne could donate as many as possible to ensure any veteran who was unfortunate enough to spend Christmas in hospital, doesn't face it without any form of stimulation.
'Since the pandemic started and visitors were not allowed in hospitals, it was impossible to see how our veterans and relatives were being entertained and stimulated, the only thing available (if you were lucky) was a virtual meeting via 'Teams'. This was not always possible for some patients, due to lack of understanding technology, hard of hearing, and also being too ill to hold the iPad. And the shortage of nursing staff meant they couldn't stay and assist with these virtual meetings.'
After finding out that some of Anne's friends were bored whilst staying in hospital, she rang the ward her friends were on and asked if she could bring in a small TV to entertain the poorly veterans. 'This set me off thinking maybe we could, as a branch, donate more and more radios, televisions and CD players. It has taken off brilliantly and to press we have donated a large number of all of the above, plus a brand-new pair of headphones that have been donated' - Anne Mellor.
Anne just wanted to help and support the veterans through their difficult situations, especially through COVID times, however Anne is still carrying on to help our troops now.
