Thanks to your kind donations, we were able to send 4 of our Lung Cancer Colleagues to an annual conference where they could gain insights, knowledge and skills to improve patient experience and care. This conference was for training and educational purposes to help educate some colleagues in new advancements in the thoracic oncology field.
“Firstly, can I say on behalf of us all, a massive thank you to the charity for making it possible for us to attend this fantastic event. It truly was a worthwhile experience and it would not have been possible for us to gain this without generous donations.” – Wendy Teague, Specialist Nurse – Lung Cancer.
The event provided a handful of colleagues the opportunity to meet with many professionals involved in the care of lung cancer patients and share experiences and learn from each other.
Our colleagues were able to listen to many national and international colleagues, who work in a variety of specialities, as they presented information relating to many aspects of lung cancer care and interventions/treatments. Lung cancer interventions/treatments are constantly changing meaning it was extremely important that our colleagues we able to be made aware of these changes to inform out future practice. Also, the extra knowledge our colleagues gained into how other lung cancer nursing colleagues practice enabled them to gain new ideas that can be implemented into our CHFT team to help improve patient experience.
There were many drug company representatives, support groups and law companies that our colleagues we able to meet and gain a better insight into the services that they offer, this knowledge gained has been able to improve outcomes and support our patients that need it.
Our colleagues who attended explained to us how they were able to bring back lots of new ideas to help improve their practice and of course, patient experience. They also came back feeling very enthusiastic and motivated to make lots of changes.
“Thanks to the charity donations, we were able to attend the evening celebrations, where we were able to meet many other lung cancer professionals in a less formal environment. This again gave us the opportunity to share and learn from each other. It was also really lovely to see many colleagues being awarded for their contributions that they have made to lung cancer and to celebrate their success. It certainly gave us all lots to aspire to. It really was a lovely experience.” – Wendy Teague.
