Kirkburton Karate Club Fitness Challenge

On Saturday 22nd April, Colin and Fay Hanson held a fundraising event in aid of the Stroke Unit at Calderdale Royal Hospital. This fundraising event was a Karate Fitness Challenge at their Karate Club in Kirkburton.

In November 2019, Chief Instructor Colin Hanson suffered a serious stroke. “The Stroke Unit team at Calderdale Royal Hospital were amazing and not only did they save his life, but they set him on his road to recovery.” – Fay Hanson. After Colins stroke, COVID hit, Fay explained to us that they already knew that post covid, their first fundraising event would be in aid of the stroke unit, in recognition for all the fantastic work that they do.

An incredible amount of 90 students took part in their 8-minute fitness challenge. The students from the club were set the challenge to complete as many exercises as possible in a minute. There are eight different exercises in total. Those with the highest scores were presented with medals and all those who completed the challenge received a certificate. An amazing amount of £600 was raised on the day through cakes and raffle tickets.

Colin and Fay would like to say a massive thank you to the Stroke Unit and all NHS staff with all their hearts.

The CHFT Charity Team would like to say a huge thanks to Colin and Fay for raising over £6,000 so far. These funds will make a positive impact to our patients and colleagues on our stroke ward!
