One Culture of Care in Action

Ward Manager on Gynaecology, Rachel Fielder, is supporting her colleague, Yvonne, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment and has sadly lost her hair, by shaving her own head.

Rachel said: "Yvonne is a lovely, beautiful blonde bubbly nurse who loves her job. She is like a Christmas fairy spreading joy wherever she goes.

"Yvonne's hair is her pride and joy, losing it has affected her mentally and emotionally. As I can't donate my hair to her, I have decided to shave my hair to try and understand a part of what Yvonne is going through.

"We are a family here at Gynaecology and I want to support my colleagues as best as I can."

Rachel will be shaving her head on Friday 26th July in the main entrance of Calderdale Royal Hospital at 1pm. Rachel welcomes anyone to come and have a go at shaving some of her hair off and would be thrilled to have a crowd cheering her on!

Unfortunately, 5 colleagues on the Gynaecology Unit at CRH have had treatment for cancer at our Cancer Support Centre over the last few years. Money raised will go to CHFT Charity to support patients who attend our Cancer Support Centre, as well as to purchase a beautiful wig for Yvonne.
