What an incredible day - a day that will be etched firmly in the memories of each incredible member of the CHFT team who undertook the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge last Saturday!
The camaraderie, tenacity, support and encouragement from everyone on the day was just amazing and while the classic trek challenged everyone, both physically and mentally – there was not one participant who did not finish the route with the biggest sense of achievement and a huge smile (perhaps the odd sigh of relief too).
Arriving in Horton in Ribblesdale by 7am, it was a very early start for all 42 participants, who began their trek at 7.20am with 25 miles of Yorkshire Dales ahead – in the hope of completing the challenge within 12 hours.
The route took on all 3 mountain in a circular route – beginning with Pen-y-ghent (694 m or 2,277 ft), then Whernside (736 m or 2,415 ft), and finally Ingleborough (723 m or 2,372 ft), before the 4 mile route back to Horton in Ribblesdale to the finish line.
At miles 10 and 17 volunteers and Kuta outdoors were stationed, with refreshments, words of advice and encouragement, along with plenty of blister tape and plasters to attend to sore feet! A huge thank you to Phil Lee and his team from Kuta for helping to make the event such a huge success – ensuring everyone completed the challenge safe and well.
Congratulations to everyone for taking part in our NHS Charities first ever fundraising event – you all have made such an incredible difference and together raised over £10,800 so far that will go such a long way in helping our NHS Charity at CHFT to provide those all-important extras for our patients and colleagues.
Take a look at the Facebook Album of photographs from the day - enjoy!
